Flower festival paid tribute to steam Rev

-

ARCHIVE film of the Cadeby Light Railway and other events in the small village near Market Bosworth proved a popular focal point at a flower festival to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of parish priest the Reverend Teddy Boston.

All Saints’ Church in Cadeby hosted a two-day festival, with displays of Boston family memorabilia and archive footage, to commemorate the anniversary.

Teas were served in the grounds of The Old Rectory, around which the Rev Boston ran a narrow gauge railway and from which he managed a large model railway in a shed.

Many visitors to the event had been either workers on or visitors to the light railway, which attracted steam enthusiasts from around the world.

But the Rev Boston was also much loved and respected for his Christian ministry and a service of choral evensong, held at the end of the weekend, led by his nephew the Reverend Jonathan Boston, reflected this.

Flower arrangements on the theme Full Steam Ahead! were created by members of Earl Shilton Flower Club and sponsored by villagers to the tune of £240.

Money raised on the day from the sale of commemorative programmes, teas and donations totalled more than £440 which will all help to care for the historic parish church, whose east end holds a large stained glass memorial window to the Rev Boston. Commemorative programmes which include a ‘Teddy Trail’ around the church and grounds remain available from the church, which is opened daily.
