Crafty call for women who create
CRAFTY women who meet weekly at a town charity shop are inviting others to join them.
They are members of a Craft and Chat Club which meets at Cafe Darius in the The Emporium on Stockwell Head every Tuesday between 1pm and 4pm.
The store, which which sells donated furniture and home wares, is one of two in the town run by Emmaus Leicestershire and Rutland, a charity offering accommodation and employment to people working their way out of homelessness and social exclusion.
Members take along their own craft activities to work on within the group or sometimes just stay to chat.
The club was set up by The Emporium volunteer Jenn Baker from Burbage, who said: “It is nice for people on their own to get out and meet each other. “Everyone’s very welcome. “We bring our own crafts, whatever we want to do, and sometimes we learn from each other too.
“We often do knitting, embroidery and crocheting.
“Sometimes we make things that can be sold in the shop to raise money for Emmaus.
“If people just want to come and sit and chat, that’s fine too.”
Shop manager Hayley Tibbetts said: “The Craft and Chat Club is all about community spirit.
“It would be great if our Craft and Chat meetings grew and became a real chance for people to get out of the house and meet each
other, especially for those who may not have the chance to socialise much in their day-today lives.
“It’s all about inclusiveness really.”
