First ever results day was a successful one for St Martin’s

STOKE Golding school pupils picked up their first ever GCSE results from St Martin’s following its conversion to a full age range academy.

More than 10% of former Year 11 students achieved eight passes at grades A* and A.

Headteache­r, Clive Wright, said: “The last two years have been a really exciting journey, growing from a small Leicesters­hire High School to educating our pupils all the way up to Year 11 and GCSE. I am delighted with our results and I am immensely grateful to the parents and pupils who put their faith in Saint Martin’s to deliver a high quality education to the age of 16.”

Deputy headteache­r Loraine Lynch-Kelly added: “Brilliant schools achieve success for all by securing GCSE grades B and C for students projected Es because expert staff are dedicated to changing life opportunit­ies.

“There were some remarkable performanc­es with Carina Barber being the village school’s highest achieving student with nine A*s and two As. Other students who also achieved eight or more A*s and As were Phoebe Edmundson, Lilli Kirkcaldy, Larcia Tsang, Nikhil Rathod, Nikhita Rathod, James Walker, Luke Meyrick and Lucas Fernadez Sarmiento.

John McGlynn, chairman of governors, said: “We are delighted with our first set of GCSE results with the percentage of pupils achieving English and Maths GCSEs into the 90s and 80s respective­ly. Our ambition was to hit the ground running in order to ensure our pupils achieve brilliantl­y from the very start.”
