STEVE Brindley recorded the biggest winning catch so far this year to take the honours in Sunday’s open match at Lychgate Fisheries.

Drawn on peg 65 Steve pole fished pellet to land carp to 11lb in a superb 120lb 8oz catch. It was a Brindley family one-two as Terry Brindley finished second from peg 55, using paste on the pole to land 87lb 4oz. Danny Ross lost more than he landed and had to settle for third place with a 78lb 4oz catch from peg 47. “Dobber” Dale completed the top four with a 74lb 14oz catch from peg 43. In what was one of the best matches of the year the top 10 anglers all weighed over 40lb.

Andy Findley also weighed over 100lb (again) to win Thursday’s Higham Lane Fishery open. Drawn on peg 12 Andy caught on the feeder before a switch to the margins resulted in some big fish caught in the last hour, to finish with 115lb 6oz. Mark Saunders finished second from peg 22 with a 92lb 11oz catch. Tony Cuppleditc­h continued his recent good form, finishing third with 84lb 11oz.

There was a close finish to the third round of the Pete Hogg Memorial series with just 2oz separating the top three. Fished on the canal at Snarestone Andy Smith landed 2lb 15oz of small fish to win. Dave Callaghan had 2lb 14oz for a close second with Alan Dixon finishing third with 2lb 13oz.

Gary Moore took the honours in Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday open match with a 39lb 2oz catch of carp and bream from peg 10. Tom Watt was back on peg 6 and celebrated by taking second place with 22lb 6oz. Paul Cayliss finished third with 11lb 1oz from peg 4.

Anglers fishing Maynes Lakes Wednesday open feared the worst when Jonathan Harvey drew the next peg to the one he had won off the previous week. Sure enough Jonathan made no mistakes to take the honours again weighing 75lb 4oz of carp. Catching most of his fish from the margins on peg 34 on Pool 1. Top catch on Pool 2 was made by Alan Grewcock who weighed 38lb 8oz from peg 6.

Rich Wells won the latest round in Saturday’s Higham Lane Fishery summer series. Drawn on peg 19 the “margin master” landed big fish by fishing pellet in the margins to finish with 94lb 7oz. Jim Spradbury came second with 86lb 11oz from peg 13 with Andy Findley finishing third with 74lb 9oz.

Shackersto­ne’s members Pairs match was won by Kev Milne and Pete Billington who weighed a combined 5lb 6oz. Roger Pickeng and Alan Dixon finished second with 3lb 6oz with Paul Trindle and Graham White taking third place with 2lb 10oz.

There are no matches on the canal on Saturday or Sunday due to the Shackersto­ne Family Festival taking place this weekend.

Higham Lane Fishery have an open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Brookfield have an open match Sunday and Wednesday, draw 9am.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match/Lychomania qualifier on Wednesday, draw 9am.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.
