Top of the pile

NKF Burbage returned to the top of the table in front of a record crowd of 122 with a very comfortable 4-0 win at home to Coventrians on Bank Holiday Monday.

Dan Heath struck following a free kick that hit the Coventrian wall rebounding straight back to Heath who hit it first time, this time with more success. The ball flew into the left hand side of the goal to put the Panthers in front.

Tom Smith doubled the lead. NKF’s attacking midfielder went on to complete his hat-trick scoring two more in the second half.

Nathan Astill had an opportunity to add to the scoring when the referee gave a penalty which looked outside the box overruling the linesman. Astill stepped up but uncharacteristically put the ball wide.

A very comfortable and impressive display in agreeable late summer weather keeps NKF’s 100% league run intact, yet to concede a goal in their new home at Kirkby Road, Barwell.

On Saturday NKF were away to Montpellier, and suffered a 1-0 loss in the Les James Challenge Cup at the Badsey Recreation Ground. GREENTOWERS Swords swooped to victory in an under-9s football tournament this month.

The young Hinckley side travelled to Ibstock United for the knock-out competition.

The Swords topped their group and advanced through to the quarter
