Washout stops Earl Shilton Town getting going

-

WEATHER hampered Earl Shilton Cricket Club’s chance to pick up points against second-placed Barkby this weekend.

The away team won the toss and elected to field first in a game that was always likely to be affected by the weather.

Earl Shilton opened with Kyle Chamberlain and Pavan Singh against bowlers Ian Kirk and Louis Botting. Pavan’s wicket fell in the sixth over but Kyle kept the score ticking over to 31.

He was joined by Hass Ali and together they took the score to 106 by the 22nd over, before Kyle was out for 75.

Sharjell Butt joined Hass and they continued to score at a good rate. Hass was then LBW to Townsend for 43 and Liam Phillips fell first ball to the same bowler.

Josh Payne quickly followed before a middle-order collapse took the score from 149 for 2 in the 29th over to 164 for 5 in the 32nd over.

Sharjeel remained strong on 41 before the play was suspended by the rain.

The conditions continued to deteriorate and it quickly became apparent that the match would be called off.

The score ended on 180 for five off 35 overs, a decent platform and a better performance halted by poor conditions.

It was a similar story for Earl Shilton Seconds home to Ashby Hastings.

An imperious bowling display from Earl Shilton led to Ashby being all out for just 75 runs.

Dick Longdon was the pick of the bowlers, getting 4 wickets for one run off 3 overs. Luke Smith chipped in taking three wickets for 18 runs off 12 overs.

In reply Earl Shilton made 7 for 0 before the rain started to fall, leading to the match being abandoned. at
