A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for 11 years for a string of sexual offences against young boys.

Graham Butterworth, of Lewis Way, Countesthorpe, was found guilty of 10 offences against two boys after a trial at Leicester Crown Court in July.

The 70-year-old was jailed for 11 years on Friday for the indecent assaults which took place in the 1980s, when the victims were aged between 14 and 15 years old.

The court was told Butterworth befriended the boys before sexually abusing them.

Leicestershire Police believes there could be more victims who have not yet come forward.

Investigatory support officer Grace Clay, from the force’s child abuse investigation unit, said: “Graham Butterworth has been convicted of a number of serious indecent assaults against two victims. He primarily targeted teenage boys, befriending them in the local community and then abusing them.

“The effects of the abuse have been long lasting for the victims, with both experiencing difficulties throughout their adult lives due to the abuse Butterworth perpetrated on them.

“His victims have shown tremendous courage in coming forward and talking about his crimes and I hope they may now be able to begin new chapters in their lives, finally knowing that he has been held accountable for his actions.”

He added: “I believe there could be more victims of Butterworth, and I would urge anyone who thinks they may have been abused by him to come forward and contact Leicestershire Police.

“Making that initial contact with the police can be daunting and it may be difficult for you to talk about it, especially if it happened some time ago, but I would like to reassure anyone who does contact us that their report will be treated with the upmost sensitivity and specialist officers will be on hand to support and assist you.”

Call Leicestershire Police on 101.
