A HINCKLEY pub is celebrating its official opening next week by giving away free beer and food.

The first 150 customers at the newly-refurbished Broood at the Prince of Wales can scoop a free pint of cask ale and a range of tasters from their food menu.

The Coventry Road watering hole is inviting residents from 6pm on Tuesday September 13 to mark the occasion.

Leicester-based The International Acoustic Playboys will to take to the stage to entertain guests.

New pub company Broood, which began operating in April this year, has given the tavern a new lease of life following a £26,000 makeover.

The firm specialises in spicy Portuguese chicken, “unique” real ales and coffee.

The new concept is being run by Leicester couple Steve Thatcher, 47, and his wife Jenny.

Steve said the pub is currently stocked with more than 100 different beers from 60 breweries - some of which have never been to Leicestershire.

He said: “We hope to offer something different, with our unique selling point being that we will stock beers from small breweries from across the country. Our head of beer, who has 35 years of experience, will travel from the northern tip of Scotland to southern coast of Cornwall to bring back the best selection of rare beers and real ales - some of which may never have leave the town in which they are brewed.”

The menu features periperi chicken, spicy wings, pulled pork rolls and daily specials such as homemade sweet chilli fishcakes, as well as lunch time options including sandwiches and soups.

The first 150 customers who sign up on their Facebook page to attend the event will be given the freebies.
