Annual Richard III symposium on its way
THE RICHARD III Foundation is to hold its 2016 annual symposium in Market Bosworth.
The conference, entitled King Richard III: Politics, Power and People, will take place at the Dixie Grammar School on Saturday October 29 from 9am to 5pm, with registration starting at 8.30am.
Based in the United States, the foundation is an international organisation that aims to prove that Richard’s villainous depiction in the Shakespearean play is nothing more than superstitious fiction, and that he was in fact one of England’s most enlightened and far-sighted rulers.
A range of guest speakers are set to give talks on various aspects of the last Plantagenet monarch’s life, who was killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, and whose body was discovered beneath Leicester’s Greyfriars Priory Church car park in 2012.
Among the speakers are Anne Crawford, who will give a talk on John Howard and the Battle of Bos- worth, Matthew Lewis, who will discuss Richard’s parliamentary deeds, and Dr James Ross, who will speak about John de Vere, 13th Earl of Oxford, and his role in Henry VII’s historic victory against Richard.
