Tour of the county this Saturday to raise charity funds

-

TEAM GB’s Olympic cycling heroes will inspire riders from Bosworth Academy during the school’s third annual Tour de Leicestershire.

The fundraising event takes place on Saturday September 10 and starts and ends at the Desford college circumnavigating the city and covering 76 miles.

Money collected will go to the Open Hands charity which offers support to those in need in local communities.

The route, which is largely new for this year, begins with a climb through the Charnwood Hills before returning to the Dixon’s farm in Hungarton for lunch.

Dave Bennett, assistant principal at Bosworth Academy, said: “The Tour De Leicester is an event where staff, students and parents can all share a great experience, encouraging and spurring each other on. Interest in cycling has grown so much over the past few years not least due to Team GB’s performance in Rio this year.

“Our annual ride will act as a catalyst for a whole series of cycling based challenges, projects and fun, involving every facility and running throughout the year at the academy.”

The entry fee is £30 per rider plus a £1 admin charge which goes to British Cycling. Entry is via the British Cycling website at: www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/ details/142793/Open-Hands-Tour-deLeicestershire-2016.
