Vintage cars set to take to the track at Mallory

-

A VINTAGE car club is seeing off the 2016 racing season in style with a grand finale at Mallory Park.

The swansong features a unique handicap race for pre-1918 Edwardian motors - the only contest of its kind in the world.

Regularly attracting a capacity grid, almost all cars involved are more than 100 years old.

Organised by the Vintage Sports Car Club the event takes place on Saturday September 24 with practice from 9.30am and racing from 1pm.

In addition to the action on track, club principal associates, Bonhams, will put on an impressive period display in the paddock, with all the competing cars on show alongside other examples from this pioneering era of motor racing.

The handicap will be part of an exciting 11-race programme, headlined by trophy races for vin- tage, post-vintage and historic racing and sports cars.

The day’s title feature will honour local British racing hero, Bob Gerard who opened the newly constructed Mallory Park Race Circuit in 1956, with recognised by having one of the track’s most challenging and famous corners named after him.

Famous brands from a bygone era such as Riley and Cooper Bristol will mix with those still known today including Bugatti and Lotus.

People arriving in pre-war cars are encouraged to gather in the dedicated parking area above the Devil’s Elbow parallel to the start/ finish straight with access also available around the edge of the circuit, parking all the way down to Gerard’s Bend.

Advance tickets are on sale now with club members £8.00 from www.vscc.co.uk and non-members £10 from www.malloryparkcircuit.com. Tickets will be £12 on the gate and under 16s are free.
