Time trail test

CYCLISTS Team Jewson M.I. Racing-Polypipe enjoyed a successful day at the Coalville Wheelers Team Time Trail event.

The race gave some of the academy riders the chance to pair up with British and World champions over the 20 mile course.

The team came away with first three places in the senior and junior section.

The fastest was the combinatio­n of Peter Medhurst and 13-year-old Josh Gidding who recorded a time of 49 minutes 29 seconds.

The second fastest was 16-year-old George Evans who was paced by World Masters Cyclo Cross Champion Phil Roach with a time of 51 minutes 11 seconds, closely follower by 13-year-old Jack Brough paced by Russell Green in a time in 51 minutes 26 seconds.

Hinckley rider Callum Twelves was the youngest competing on the day at 12 years old, while the oldest was 77-year-old multi World Masters Champion Mick Ives.

Together they posted a time of 57 minutes and 55 seconds.

Further down the field Harry Fearn and Geoff Gidding recorded one hour and nine seconds, whilst Martin Hackley and Owen Lightfood finished in one hour 45 seconds.

Elsewhere Peter Busby won the Ev Cyclo Cross event at Mallory Park for riders over 50.

Hinckley’s Kirby Bennett and Phil Stokes competed in the UCI World Masters Mountain Bike Championsh­ip in Italy, and Stuart Thompson finished sixth at the Darley Moor meet near Ashbourne.

Finally, 56-year-old Pete Smith returned from injury to finish third in the King of the Bowl event at Milton Keynes circuit, and followed it up with a time of 21 minutes and 37 seconds in the Bossard Wheelers open 10-mile time trial.
