NOMINATIONS for the seventh annual Blaby District Local Sports Alliance Sports Awards have opened.

Sponsored by Nest Estate Agents, the Blaby District LSA Sports Award allows residents to acknowledge the outstanding individual and collective sporting achievements in the area.

The ceremony will take place at Countesthorpe College on Thursday November 17, and will see finalists across ten categories awarded for their exceptional efforts in the previous year.

nyone representing a school or club in the Blaby District is eligible to be nominated for an applicable category, including Coach of the Year, Team of the Year, Young Team of the Year, Sports Person of the Year, Young Sports Person of the Year, Sports Person of the Year with a Disability, Young Sports Person of the Year with a Disability, Volunteer of the Year, the Active 4 Life - Health and Wellbeing Award and the Blaby LSA Special Recognition Award.

Councillor Sheila Scott, portfolio holder for health and leisure, said: “We are so proud to offer these awards. Every year we receive so many nominations and this shows the fantastic sporting prowess within Blaby district.

“The awards are our way to honour those people who have both accomplished such extraordinary feats or been selfless volunteers.”

Past winners at the awards include Commonwealth silver medallist in archery Lizzie Warner, and professional cyclist Grace Garner.
