New Sunday league football season kicks off

-

THE NEW season kicked off with a number of tantalising fixtures at the weekend.

In the Premier Division, Sporting Dynamo began their title defence by thrashing newly-promoted Enderby Social 8-0, with four goals to Kyle Croxall, a hat-trick for Chris Acott and one for Ryan Foster.

Cross Keys will hope to improve on last season’s runners-up spot and they started with a 5-1 win against Duke of Rutland. Goals from Jess Adcock (3), Charlie Adcock and Nathan Astill sealed victory.

Promoted Stoke Golding beat Market Bosworth 1-0 in a close game thanks to a Tom Watson goal.

In Division One, the two newly-promoted sides, FC Bulls Head and Three Horseshoes, went head to head in a tight affair.

The Horseshoes broke the deadlock after 42 minutes when Frank Clark smashed home a header from a corner.

Within a minute, Ryan Brightwell had levelled things for the Bulls when he scored from close range with his head.

Little separated the teams until Sam Grouse converted direct from a free-kick.

The Bulls were not to be denied though and when Ryan Brightwell went through on goal he was brought down in the box to allow Guy Lucas to level things from the spot.

Athletico Green put five past Ullesthorpe through Renshaw (3), Varden and Yonas to open the season with three points.

Thurlaston Magpies went 2-0 up in the first half against Topp’s Res thanks to goals from Ryan Patel and Tom Cooley.

An unfortunate last minute own goal made the final score 2-1 to Thurlaston.

In Division Two, promoted Miners started slowly against EST Lord Nelson and went a goal down at half-time.

But they soon found their form and scored five goals through Daniel Edwards (2), Kurtis Lole, Gavin Edwards and Tom Powers to win 5-1.

In a similar fashion, a tight 1-1 scoreline at half-time points from an entertaining 4-4 draw on opening day.

Aaron Boyle, Lewis King and Daniel Swainemoor scored for the hosts to give them a 2-0 lead at half-time. But a hat-trick from Sam Thomas and a goal from Matthew Furniss allowed the second half comeback for Newstock.

Barlestone Athletic made a slow start in their first game against Stanton United OB and found themselves three down at half-time.

A second half fightback came to late and the game ended 4-2 to Stanton.

Tom Bennett and Liam Buskin scored for Barlestone with the Stanton goals coming from Dan Poulter, Kyle Ulmer, a Mitch Smith penalty and a last minute clincher from Josh Leadbitter.

Holywell started their season well with a 7-2 win at home against Stoke Golding Res, Paul Cornell, Alex Welding, Seb Dennis and Jack Brooker for Holywell, Luke Wilson and Kaine Finch for Stoke Golding.

Stoneycroft won with a 2-1 victory against Totes Hilar.
