Old boys and Veterans scoop three points

-

BURBAGE Old Boys seniors sealed a 1-1 draw against Cosby at the weekend through a last minute equaliser.

Burbage had the better chances in the first half when Luke Wiggins hit a 25 yard strike which rattled the underside of the crossbar and appeared to bounce over the line, but the referee didn’t award the goal.

Cosby, last season’s runner’s up and 2014/15 treble winners, broke the deadlock when a miss-hit cross whizzed into the top corner of the goal.

Burbage threw a number of bodies forward in search of an equaliser and Cosby nearly made it two with a strike from distance hitting the bar.

In the 75th minute Danny Simmons had a strong penalty shout for Burbage turned down.

Burbage continued to press and equalised in the 92nd minute when Mitch Linney’s strong header was parried by the keeper to allow Adam SmedleyRichardson to fire it into the net.

Man of the match went to Isaac Walsh.

Meanwhile, the newly formed Burbage Veterans side beat Belgrave 5-2 away on Saturday.

Burbage dominated in the first 20 minutes and went 1-0 up just before half-time.

They doubled their lead in the second half before Belgrave pulled one back.

Burbage pushed on to score three more to seal the three points.

Man of the match went to Kinwah Chan.
