Riders are taking inspiration from our Olympic triumphs

-

THE OLYMPICS may be over for another four years but hopefully the legacy of the success of British cycling lives on and continues to inspire the area’s riders.

As it draws to a close, the time-trialling season has continued to see some fast times produced with more and more personal bests recorded. In particular the Tuesday Night 10 mile TT on August 16 brought in the following results: David Mead 20:32 CPB, Ed Tarelli 22:58 CPB, Matt Mann 23:18 CPB, Michael Johnson 24:07 PB, Richard Keyte 27:56 PB and Annette Roberts 29:07 CPB.

The annual club 25 mile TT on August 21 saw 19 riders taking part with David Mead achieving the fastest time of 54:27 shortly followed by Robert Gibbons, Matthew Dennis, Andrew Tomkins and Bill Harris who all came in under the hour. Fastest female on the day was Christine Johnson who recorded a time of 1:13:44.

The Tuesday Night 10 TT on 30th August saw Matt Bailey achieving a time of 25:18 for his first ride and personal bests recorded by Linda Hubbard 25:33, Simon Haywood 25:54 as well as two junior riders Lucy Alexander 37:21 and Amber Gibbs 37:48.

Elsewhere Jeff Farmer has represented the club well by coming 12th in the Grand Vets category in the Friday Night Summer Series of mountain bike races.

After qualifying to the required British Cycling coaching level, Richard Gamble has ran some cyclo-cross training sessions over the summer which hopefully will see some riders using their skills in the upcoming cyclocross season. The club has a number of British Cycling qualified coaches who are available to help other riders in need of training plans or help to improve their riding skills.

Although the club’s weekly time trials finish this week until next year, the Sunday morning club rides continue all year round. For information visit www.hinckleycrc.org
