Visiting Vipers lacked enough venom to cope

-

HINCKLEY RFC Under-16s showed real venom to beat Leicester Vipers 19-12 on the opening game of the season.

The Leicester Road side made an immediate impact with huge hits coming straight from the kick off from Wass and Coltman.

Hinckley dominated possession early on but were restricted by great defending from the visitors.

The home side eventually found a way through the back line to allow Kean to touch down out wide, which Reynolds converted. Hinckley continued to control the game with prop Lockett dominant at the breakdown.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first with Hinckley continuing to dominate possession and the Vipers defending strongly. Hinckley found themselves under pressure a few times due to errors, but were saved by the quick feet of Kean.

Captain Davey made a superb break from midway, supported by his fellow forwards, to allow the backs to feed winger Upton to score the second try of the day in the corner. The conversion was missed from a very tight angle.

Weak defending saw the Vipers strong running centre to break clear and score a converted try to cut the lead.

Hinckley responded though as flanker Dewis forced a turnover at a ruck, allowing centre Webb to release winger Dalby. He was tackled but Davey was quickly on hand to feed centre Clamp who moved the ball on to man-of-the-match Kean for his second try of the morning, which Reynolds converted.

The Vipers scored a late consolation try, but the game had already been wrapped up by Hinckley.
