Shooter aiming for the top
A TEENAGER from Earl Shilton has gone from strength to strength to become one of the country’s most gifted and successful young clay pigeon shooters.
Kyle Humphreys, 15, of The Poplars, first took up the sport just over a year ago and has since gone on to win numerous awards as a Class C shooter.
More recently, Kyle scooped three consecutive regional titles - the East Midlands Regional Champion, the East Midlands Junior Champion and the East Midland Junior High Gun.
The talented shooter is currently ranked sixth in the UK in his class, but he will soon be promoted to Class B due to his consistent success.
Kyle specialises in a discipline known as Down-the-Line (DTL), in which competitors use a doublebarrelled shotgun and are permitted to fire both barrels at a single target.
A keen sportsman and student at St Martin’s Voluntary Catholic Academy, Kyle’s potential as a shooter was first noticed by a coach at Normanton Shooting Ground in Thurlaston, where he was taken under the wing of Mick Marlow for expert training in DTL.
He has also secured sponsorship from Croft firm Marlborough Constructional Engineers, who specialise in sheet metal fabrication.
Perry Humphreys, Kyle’s father, said: “His achievements and progress are quite remarkable and a testament to the excellent training from his coach and he hopes that his success will inspire other youngsters to join this growing sport which also delivered Olympic success for Team GB in Rio.”
Kyle’s ultimate goal is to shoot for England, and in light of his recent achievements, there is every possibility of him accomplishing his dream.
