Man dies in collision with HGV on M1
WITNESSES are being sought after a man died in a collision with a lorry on the M1 last Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to the northbound side of the motorway at Junction 23 near Loughborough and Shepshed at about 5.20am where a man was pronounced dead at the scene after colliding with a lorry.
The incident followed a report made just minutes earlier of a collision on the bridge over the M1 junction on the A512, involving one vehicle.
The northbound carriageway of the M1 was closed while investigations were carried out, as was the A512 in both directions.
The A512 was reopened to traffic at 1.45pm, with the motorway reopening just before 2pm.
Major delays were reported as a result of the closures, although M1 traffic was able to travel over the junction while investigations were carried out.
Leicestershire Police officers are still working to establish the exact circumstances of the two incidents and the links between them.
A spokesman said: “We’d like to thank those motorists unfortunately caught up in the tailbacks for their patience. The exact circumstances surrounding the collision and the events leading up to it are under investigation. However if anyone witnessed either collision they are asked to contact 101, quoting incident 84 of 9 September.”
