Charity bags cash from store

-

FUNDRAISERS at Hinckley’s Sainsbury’s store have presented a cheque for nearly £2,565 to Burbage-based charity KeepTheBeat.

The money was raised between November 2015 and June this year by colleagues and shoppers in-store in support of the new supermarket’s first chosen charity of the year.

As the supermarket opened in the middle of a fundraising season, KeepTheBeat only benefited from seven months of money-making but the donation at the end of that period has been a huge boost to funds.

The charity was founded by Annita and Adam Tansey after their son Albert was born with congenital heart disease.

He has since received a heart transplant and is leading a normal life as an enthusiastic schoolboy.

KeepTheBeat supports families of children with similar illnesses and funds equipment at Leicester’s Glenfield heart unit, whose future is currently under review.

Sainsbury’s staff ran book stalls, static bike rides, cake sales, Christmas card competions and raffles to add to money for the cause.

Shoppers were encouraged to donate in collecting tins at staffed tills and to use a money-spinner at the self-serve checkouts.

Hinckley Sainsbury’s chosen charity for 2016-17 is Abbie’s Hideaway, which offers free caravan holidays to families of children undergoing cancer treatment.
