New priest rocks up in Bosworth

-

MUSIC lover and Formula One fan the Reverend Mark Poskitt is to be licensed as new priest in charge of the Market Bosworth benefice in a service at St Peter’s Church next Tuesday September 20 at 7.30pm.

The service, which will welcome Rev Poskitt as Rector of Market Bosworth and its surrounding villages, will be led by the Bishop of Leicester, the Rt Rev Martyn Snow.

Writing in New Insight, the benefice magazine, Rev Poskitt said: “Moving to a new parish is a strange affair.

“It means saying goodbye to those we’ve made friends with and cared for in our former parish, while taking on the uncertainty of a new parish.”

But he said: “It’s a delight to come to Bosworth.”

Rev Poskitt, originally from Hull, has been in the Church of England ministry for 16 years and previously served in Barnsley.

He is married to Sue, a teacher, and they have two grown up chidren, Sam, a PhD student, and Sarah, an accountant.

A passionate Formula One fan, Rev Poskitt is also a music lover with an eclectic taste ranging, he says, from Brahms to The Beatles.

Describing his arrival in Bosworth as coming at “a time of both opportunity and challenge for the church”, he said: “I’ve always believed that the church should be open, wel- coming, inclusive and at the heart of the community.

“The building stands as a reminder of God’s presence in the world while its people reveal God’s love in their hearts and lives.”
