Food, glorious food... and a pint on the side
OUR interest in food has never been as high as it it today with TV channels saturated with cooking shows and more and more restaurants opening up everywhere.
As a result, there has been a rise in the number of foodie events taking place around the area.
Here is a guide to some which are happing in and near Hinckley.
And don’t forget Hinckley hosts a farmers’ market on the third Thursday of every month. Burbage also hosts a farmers’ market which is on the first Saturday of every month.
Dumplings, beer and
a star chef The White Bear pub in Coventry Road, which is owned by the Steamin’ Billy chain, is hosting a Dumplings, Steamed Buns and Beer evening on September 22.
It is an event with promises Chinese steamed buns and dumplings which feature in the street food markets of Hong Kong, Tokyo and Malaysia.
They will have a selection of different ones on offer including gua bao (steamed bun with a choice of fillings), gyoza, char sui with BBQ pulled pork as well as soy pulled chicken.
It will be hosted by the celebrity chef Kwoklyn Wan who is the brother of Gok Wan.
There will also be live entertainment including a singer, Tai Chi demonstration and an outdoor open kitchen. It is free entry to the Coventry Road pub.
Edible Forest There’s a feast of food and drink in Charnwood Forest when the first-ever Edible Forest Festival takes place from September 16 to 18.
Edible Forest will present a series of unique food-related events in some of Leicestershire’s most iconic settings, including bacon roll days, artisan bread making, forestinspired gourmet menus, tea in the Old John Tower, cocktails and canapés, and apple pressing demonstrations.
The original Tea in the Tower event this Friday has now sold out so an additional event has been scheduled for this Sunday with three sittings. Only 18 tickets are available for each sitting and are expected to sell out quickly.

Quorn Bacon Rolls Day - Friday 16 September
The air in Quorn will be full once again of the delicious aromas of bacon, onions, herbs, suet pastry and perhaps some little secret ingredient as contestants descend on Odd John’s Kitchen clutching their lovingly prepared Quorn bacon rolls.
Sourdough Bread Session - Friday 16 September
As part of The Real Bread Campaign’s month-long promotion of the benefits of sourdough, Ian Waterland, from Knead Good Bread Artisan Bakery, is hosting a special sourdough session during the Edible Forest Festival at Loughborough College.
Cocktails and Canapes Friday 16 September
You can expect canapés and cocktails with inspiration drawn from the forest, live music and a chance to dance. Imagine a mini laid back festi- - val in one evening. It is taking place in a secret garden at the heart of the ancient woods.
Apple Pressing Demonstration - Saturday 17 September
Demonstration by Rob from Charnwood Cider on apple pressing together with a tasting of the fresh juice and the cider which is made from it.
The Enchanted Forest - Saturday 17 September
An extraordinary family event where your tastebuds and senses will be delighted with mouth-watering food, dazzling entertainment and many surprises in a breath-taking magical setting.

Leicester markets A continental market is being held in Leicester from Wednes- day October 5 to Sunday October 9. And the market is hosting a Winter Food and Drink Festival on Sunday November 20. More details will be announced soon by Leicester market.
Belgrave food fair Belgrave Hall Good Food Fair takes place on September 17 and 18.
Visitors will enjoy organic foods, drinks, preserves, cakes and snacks from local producers, sellers and restaurants.
Adults £2.50 and free for children. Free parking will be available at Jelson’s on Loughborough Road, 5 minutes walk to Belgrave Hall.
