Solid victories for both under-16s and under-13s squads

HINCKLEY RFC Under-16s welcomed Nottingham Paviors to Leicester Road for the first meeting between the sides in a decade.

Paviors were strong early doors with Hinckley having to defend under severe pressure. Great tackles came in from Webb and Ellershaw, the latter playing out of position on the wing, Clamp also producing some booming clearance kicks to relieve the pressure.

It took Hinckley 15 minutes before they made it into Paviors’ half, something they managed only three times in the opening half - but each visit resulted in a score.

Paviors were then able to reply with a converted try of their own having moved the ball quickly through their backline. Hinckley completed the first half scoring though as flanker Jones made a break allowing the backline to feed Dalby for his second score.

The second half started in similar fashion with Hinckley producing a big tackle count as Paviors camped in the home side’s 22. The visitors were held up over the line but were not to be denied as Hinckley’s defence finally gave way allowing a converted score under the posts.

Hinckley then produced two quick scores of their own. Paviors hit back with their third score of the morning, having an abundance of numbers out wide.

A storming finish saw Hinckley score tries from Wass and Nixon, both converted by Ellershaw with lock Crump completing the scoring barging over from a five yard scrum.

The final score was Hinckley 48 Paviors 19.

HINCKLEY’S large squad of Under-13s played its first fixture as juniors against Banbury RFC on Sunday.

After being presented with new playing kit and formal shirts and ties, the Hinckley boys came out of the changing room fired up for a tough contest.

Banbury also had a large squad, which enabled four 15 minute quarters of competitive rugby to be played.

The first was a fantastic opening of junior rugby, with both teams putting in hard tackles and strong runs.

Hinckley had the better in the scrum and were camped in Banbury’s half for most of the quarter. Hinckley’s strong forwards recycled the ball for numerous phases resulting in the only try of the quarter, a team effort grounded by scrum half Wainde.

The second quarter saw almost complete personnel change by both sides.

Hinckley were still the stronger team with the forwards dominating, resulting in two more tries for scrumhalf Drakeford, an excellent offload from Mensforth Grove to Ellershaw on the wing to score in the corner.

In the third quarter some complacency crept in with Banbury scoring a couple of breakaway tries.

The final quarter had Banbury fighting for the draw pulling level with five minutes to go, but two tries from Moore and Hurley-Smith put the game out of Banbury’s reach.
