Paedophile DJ sent to jail for three years

Police say he may have other victims

-

A FORMER DJ has been jailed for three years after admitting a series of sexual offences involving an underage girl.

Matt Underwood, 37, of Saunderson Road, Leicester, was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on September 16 after pleading guilty to possessing indecent images of a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The court was told Underwood persistently contacted a 15-year- old girl after meeting her in a city pub where he worked as a DJ.

He encouraged the teenager to engage in sexual activity between July and November last year - despite being aware of her age.

Detective Constable Sada Bains, from Leicestershire Police’s child sexual exploitation team, said: “Despite knowing the victim’s true age, Underwood was persistent in contacting her.

“While he has been jailed for his crimes against this victim, we cannot rule out the possibility there may be other victims of his out there who have not come forward and spoken to us.

“If you believe you could have been a victim of Underwood’s please come forward so we can investigate fully and offer appropriate support. We are committed to tackling child sexual exploitation and will take all reports seriously and investigate them thoroughly.

“We have a specialist team who deal with these cases and we work closely with social workers and other partner agencies to provide the best possible support and help to victims.

“I would like to reassure anyone who does contact us their report will be treated with the upmost sensitivity and specialist officers will be on hand to support and assist victims.”
