Goodie bags to be given to homeless

-

HOMELESS people in Hinckley are set to receive goodie bags full of toiletries and tasty treats after a community group scooped a £1,000 cash boost.

The Pathways Centre at Hinckley Baptist Church was selected as the winner of a competition run by Vodafone and The Hinckley Times.

The group will be given £1,000 to produce “blessing bags” for people living on the streets of Hinckley as part of the mobile firm’s Community Connection Awards scheme.

Ruth Wright, Pathways centre manager, said she was “delighted” to win the competition and thanked Vodafone for the opportunity.

The bags will also be given to homeless young people staying at Lawrence House and domestic abuse victims at the town’s women’s refuge.

They will contain toiletries including toothpaste, deodorant, soap, plus socks and underwear, as well as a tasty treat such as a bar of chocolate.

Mrs Wright said: “I’m really excited to be given the opportunity to use the community fund.

“It’s great to be able to help people living on the streets in the area and to work closely with Lawrence House and the women’s refuge.

“The money will make a large quantity of these bags which I’m sure will be greatly appreciated by those who have found themselves in situations where they are in need of some kindness and support.”

Brian Clarke, Vodafone store manager in Hinckley, said: “The Pathways Centre couldn’t be a more worthy and deserving winner, their work truly makes a difference to the people in our community. We’re thrilled that we are able to help them”.

The Pathways Centre runs a series of groups and classes at the church for people of all ages in the community.
