Venue was refurbished just seven months ago

SPORTS bar and eatery the Gas Works has closed just seven months after a major refurbishment and a change of name.

A padlock appeared on the front doors, with a price tag still showing, on Wednesday following an apparent sudden shutdown on Tuesday night.

Empty beer glasses and even a plate of leftover food littered tables inside. This detritus has now been cleared.

According to posts on social media the Regent Street bar went out of business due to personal reasons.

When contacted former manager Becci List said the operators had gone on to “bigger and better things”, the lease was up and the venture had just not worked out.

Meanwhile Natasha-leya Greenslade said the place had exercised a professional relationship with suppliers and any money owed was well within expected amounts for any business.

She added it was due to differ- ences of opinion in the future direction of the venue which had prompted its demise.

Despite these assertions one supplier turned up outside the pub on Wednesday last week seeking answers over the shutdown and saying he was owed £1,500 for equipment supplied but not paid for.

Originally a Barracuda brand outlet, the bar was taken over and reopened as The Gravity in April 2014.

It had closed in October 2013 as a result of the demise of the Barracuda Group.

In March The Gravity was relaunched as The Gas Works following a five-day refurbishment to give it a rustic, ‘ steampunk’ inspired interior.

It boasted a new homemade menu, featuring burgers, hotdogs and meat classics as well as a Sunday carvery.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights the bar was open until 2am with a DJ and regular theme nights.
