The laws need to stiffen over pavement cycling

-

I really think that national/local government should review the laws/ rules pertaining to cycling on the pavement.

Recently whilst pulling off my front drive onto the road, I narrowly avoided hitting an adult cyclist riding on the pavement, I have to ask why they are encouraged to ride on the pavement, which is a walk way not a cycle track.

Cyclists need to remember that vehicle drivers do not always have full visibility along the pavement when pulling off their drives due to hedges and other obstruc- tions in their view.

Recently whilst pulling off the front of our house I was nearly hit by an adult riding a cycle at speed along the pavement and had to brake, the cyclist saw me a bit late and swerved onto the road without looking.

As our road is not very busy, why was he riding on the pavement?

On another occasion an adult on an electric cycle came silently gliding along the path towards the local school, why?

You cannot hear them coming, why should I expect to see a grown adult using such a machine on a pavement.

Recently whilst walking into town from the police station, two youths on cycles came along the pavement alongside the old Atkins building.

They were not going fast, they could not go fast, why?

Because they were using their phones, they could not ride a straight line and were fortunate not to hit a pedestrian, those walking towards them had to move out of the way. Name and address
