LEICESTERSHIRE Police have launched a recruitment drive for 80 new officers.

The force is recruiting 120 new officers overall, with 40 coming from internal staff, and members of the public can now apply to fill the remaining 80 positions via their website.

Applicants must be aged between 18 and 57 years and need to be “adaptable to changes” and “ready to think on your feet”.

The force is keen to recruit more women officers as well as people from black and minority ethnic communities to “truly reflect” the communities it serves.

The job description reads: “Are you ready to stand up to one of the most rewarding and fulfilling jobs you could do?

“It’s a unique role with unique demands that are ever-changing. You need to be adaptable to change and ready to think on your feet.

“In return, you will have the benefit of working for a creative, forward-thinking force that is dedicated to keeping Leicestershire a safe place to live, work and visit.

“Are you ready for a varied job? A job that is as much about supporting victims, providing reassurance and building relationships as it is about flashing lights and handcuffing offenders.”

The force said “good financial management” and an increase in funding has allowed it to hire new staff following years of widespread budget cuts.

It confirmed that 20 of its own police community support officers (PCSOs), volunteers and special constables, as well as other staff, had started training as officers, with a further 20 to begin the nine-month December.

Some 100 new police community support officers are also being recruited.

The deadline to apply is 11.59pm on October 23.
