Under-16s ease to victory to march on in the county cup

-

HINCKLEY RFC under-16s overcame local rivals Leicester Forest to set up a meeting with Vipers RFC in the next round of this year’s county cup.

The 27-7 score line could have been more convincing but for numerous errors and Hinckley’s inability to utilise their superior backline.

Just a single score separat- ed the two sides at half-time, Reynolds making the most of a quick tap penalty on Forest’s 22 to touch down. Hinckley did enjoy plenty of possession & territory but could not add to the score. Winger Upton showed off his footballing skills, kicking and chasing only to knock on over the try line. Big tackles were also evident from Locket, Reynolds & Jones. As the half wore on though Forest were able to up their game, putting Hinckley under considerable pressure in their own 22, but good defence kept the visitors out. Hooker Johnson won a scrum against the head to help the cause.

The second half commenced with Hinckley back in the ascendancy, the forwards picking and driving allowing Davey to crash over from a yard to score. Hinckley were now causing themselves more problems than their opponents with silly mistakes and bad judgement allowing Forest to stay in the game. The pressure was eased though as a Reynolds clearance kick from his own 22 was chased down by himself aided by Clamp for a further score.

A further handling error then gifted Forest their only score of the morning which was duly converted to keep the visitors hopes of a comeback alive.

Hinckley were able to respond though and put the game to bed as Reynolds completed his hat-trick scoring under the posts following a set scrum which he converted.

Flanker Dewis then rounded things off with his first try for the club following good work from Phipps, Reynolds and Clamp.
