Thanks for backing campaign

-

I would like to thank the Hinckley Times and reporter Karen Hambridge for their very professional coverage of the Chamber of Trade campaign to ensure that the borough council bought the strategic anchor Co-op site and Car Park at the top of the town.

The residents and shoppers of Hinckley have supported the Chamber of Trade and the businesses in Hinckley who have led the campaign to save the Co-op Site and car park from development, so that it can be opened again for shoppers to the Upper Castle Street area of the town. This is the only large car park at the top of the town and its closure put at risk the future existence of the unique and old established businesses situated there and ultimately would have effected the well being of the whole town.

We have fought a valiant campaign with a 2,500 signature petition collected by retail businesses, attended numerous meetings and given presentations of the business case to the full council meeting and to the Scrutiny Committee. All of these meetings were attended by the COT officers and business owners to emphasise the importance of the actions needed which we campaigned for. We have had 100% backing from the Hinckley Town Centre Partnership, BID, excellent support from the Chief Executive of HBBC Steve Atkinson and councillors, to all of those backing our campaign we say a huge thank you.

We are delighted that finally the outcome is as we fought hard to get. That the borough council has bought the Co-op site and secured the car park for the future.

We congratulate and thank the borough council for listening to the Chamber of Trade, their member businesses, customers, shoppers, and residents often unable to park outside their own home, and for their Vision and Investment in the future of the Town.
