THE FINAL match in the eight round Pete Hogg Memorial series was fished on the Monthills length at Shackersto­ne.

Geoff Taylor took the honours, landing a 3lb plus tench and three small perch to weigh 3lb 9ozs to win. Runner-up Dave Callaghan weighed 2lb 10ozs of small roach and perch while third place Doug Dimbleby made a similar catch to take third place with 2lb 8ozs.

Overall winner of the series was Andy Morton with a total of 18 points.

Runner-up Dave Callaghan finished with 15 points with Doug Dimbleby in third place with 14 points.

In-form Suzi Smith won her fourth match in a row when she won Lychgate Fisheries Wednesday open match. Drawn on peg 68 Suzi used her favourite pellet feeder tactics to land 72lb 14ozs for an easy win.

Paul Bates finished second with a 39lb 2oz catch from peg 62 on the method with Dave “Stretch” Armstrong taking third place with a 24lb 12oz catch.

Thursday’s Higham Lane Fishery Open match was won by Pete Lowe with a 69lb 7oz catch on pole fished pellet from peg 22. Ian Shirley came second with 39lb 11ozs with Graham Beckworth taking third place with a 36lb 7oz catch.

Alby Beehls run continued at Maynes Lakes when he won the Wednesday Open for the fourth successive week. Drawn next to the peg he’d won from last week, Alby again pole fished sweetcorn to land 40lb 8ozs and another win.

Steve Brindley had to switch between pole and feeder tactics to keep catching in Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match. But his hard work paid off as he snatched a narrow win with a 47lb 6oz catch from peg 62.

In-form Suzi Smith was at the next peg (63) and was looking good after landing seven fish in the first hour on her favourite pellet feeder tactics but she slowed up and finished just short with a 47lb 2oz catch.

Jamie Horler pole fished pellet to take third place with a 37lb 6oz catch while Paul Bates finished fourth with a 29lb 12oz catch.

Mick Linnett won yet again at Mill on the Soars Tuesday Open match, his third win in a row. Drawn on peg 31 Mick used a small pellet feeder to catch 38lb 4ozs of carp. Tom Watt was second with a 34lb 7oz catch from peg 10 with Alby Behl taking third place with 22lb 15ozs from peg 2.

The first match in Higham Lane’s winter Saturday open matches was won by Chris Wyhte with a 51lb catch from peg 21. Martin Ireland waited until the last 90 minutes to catch, finishing second with 48lb 7ozs. John Varley and Dean Hughes tied for third place both weighing 36lb 11ozs.

Shackersto­ne’s Sunday open match was fished on the Horse and Jockey length of the canal. Ashby Canal legend Doug Dimbleby included a 1.5lb perch in his winning 2lb 14oz catch. Hubert Noar had a small perch catch weighing 2lb 7ozs to take second place. Terry Smith finished third with a 1lb 12oz roach catch.

Sunday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match produced some big carp with several double fish landed. Steven Zseli took the honours with a 50lb 12oz catch from peg 45 on pole fished pellet. Steve Jackson was second with a 45lb 2oz catch on pole fished sweetcorn. Steve Brindley finished third with a 38lb 6oz catch from peg 35.

Mill Street Motors Darren Walters had a golden spell to go from nowhere to third in Makins Sunday Open match. Drawn on peg 12 on the Avon Pool Darren had just one small carp in the net and thinking about an early finish but a switch to the margins produced a run of fish in a 40 minute spell that gave him a 51lb 4oz total catch and put him in third place.

Higham Lane Fishery have an open match every Thursday and Saturday. draw 9am for both matches.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches on Saturday and Sunday. Draw 9am on Saturday.

Measham hold their members’ Challenge Cup contest on the canal at Alvercote. Draw 8am at the Sam Barlow Pub next to the canal.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday. Draw 8.30am.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
