Good results for town ladies netball teams

-

HINCKLEY A netball team stormed to a 57-20 victory against Stockton despite missing their usual goal attack.

B team player Darcey Arrowsmith made the step-up and helped ensure a flowing attacking performance with a whopping 19 goals scored by the team in the last quarter.

The offensive strength was matched by the talents of defensive duo of Kate Chamberlain and Alice Roche. Player of the match was Ashleigh Oakes.

It was a day of the first of many local derby matches, with Hinckley having three teams in the same division this year.

A solid, strong Hinckley D team took to the courts against the much-respected Hinckley B, dictating the play by taking the lead of 10 in the first two quarters.

Both defensive teams worked tirelessly to overturn centres and intercept passes. A change of player in the B team for the third quarter meant fresh legs and a chance to decrease the deficit. However, the Ds held tight chasing every ball down to secure their third win in a row for the season.

Player of the match went to Sue Ley for Hinckley D and joint player of the match for Hinckley B went to Anna Kinsella and Denise Ibbetson.

Hinckley C had a tough game against Highway, as Highway dominated the play from the start and Hinckley struggled to keep up. Fighting for every ball, Hinckley were giving everything to try and regain possession and control of the game.

Despite the team linking up well it wasn’t enough and the final score of Highway 52 Hinckley 17 didn’t reflect the hard work from every player. Player of the match was goal attack Emily Harrison.

The Fs were back out in force, away against C&NW this week. Despite a strong first quarter, the Fs were overpowered by a very physically dominant team. Nevertheless the Fs continued fighting and there were some fantastic interceptions by Claire Chaudhuri in centre court.

Some moving around of the team formation at half-time gave Hinckley a fresh boost of energy but sadly it wasn’t enough to pull back the score which finished 34-15 to C&NW. Player of the match went to the very agile Katie Eaves at goal attack.

The G and H teams both played their second matches in the Warwickshire Midweek League. The G team took an early lead against Griff and Coton. Strong shooting from Aly Steele kept adding to the scoreline and Hinckley never looked troubled. A solid performance was put in by the defenders, earning goal defence firsttimer Verity Skelton player of the match ensured Hinckley recorded an easy 31-13 win to notch up two out of two for the season so far.

In only their second ever match newly formed Hinckley H showed they had learned a lot from the previous week and applied it straight away in their match against Bramcote Swans.

The attacking trio showed some slick and fast interplay in and out of the circle which is an encouraging sign for the season ahead.

Young Charlie Bowman, in her first season out of juniors, showed maturity as goal keeper, reading the game well with turnovers in the circle but it was another strong performance from Steph Morton at goal defence that again saw her named player of the match. A great confidence boosting win of 38-16 for the team to take into next week.
