Over 100 tractors to parade rural streets

-

MORE than 100 tractors are set to parade the streets of Market Bosworth next month to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Farmer Jim Saunders, from Sutton Cheney, is organising a ‘tractor run’ on November 20.

The event will involve more than 100 tractors driving up to 15 miles around the town and neighbouring villages of Cadeby and Sutton Cheney.

Bosworth police and volunteer marshals will help to ensure the impact on traffic is kept to a minimum, Mr Saunders said.

The 25-year-old hopes to raise between £1,500 and £2,000 for the charity.

It is a cause very close to his heart after his auntie was recently diagnosed with throat cancer.

Mr Saunders, who works for his dad’s firm Ambion Contractors in Sutton Cheney, said: “I have never really thought about cancer before, but after my auntie was diagnosed with throat cancer I realised the huge impact it has on so many people.

“So I thought it would be a good idea to get a group of tractor drivers and enthusiasts together and do a 10 to 15 mile road run to raise money for Cancer Research.

“I’m hoping to get more than 100 tractors together and I’m working closely with Market Bosworth police to ensure there’s no hiccups.

“The tractors will be leaving from Sutton Cheney in groups of 15 to 20 at a time to reduce the impact on residents.”

The event starts at 9am from Hall Farm Yard on Main Street, Sutton Cheney.

A raffle will be held with top prizes donated from Caterpillar in Desford, construction firm JCB and other businesses.

Nearby pub Hercules will be serving bacon rolls for £1, with all proceeds being donated to the charity.
