Litter pickers are what the borough needs
COMMUNITY minded folk are being urged to come forward and help tidy up their neighbourhood.
Successful litter picks have taken place across Hinckley and Bosworth this year, especially around the time of the celebrations for the royal 90th birthday with the ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign.
Groups including children in scouts, brownies and cubs, individuals and local councillors have all pitched in to pick up discarded refuse.
Dozens of people regularly give their time to the enterprise and now Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council is putting out a call for more volunteers.
A spokesman said: “Across the borough there are already more than 80 litter pickers and various litter picking groups who do sterling work for the community improving their local areas. These include brownies at Thornton, cubs in Burbage, staff from McDonald’s, a walking group in Barwell and a joint group in Carlton and Sheepy.
“But more volunteers are always welcome and anyone who is interested in helping the Clean Neighbourhoods Team or organising their own community litter picks should contact the team.
“The team will supply all the equipment needed such as a litter picker, bag ring, gloves, hi-vis vests and refuse bags. They will also arrange for the rubbish to be collected.”
