RUGBY ROUND-UP

-

Market Bosworth RFC 21 Coalville 21

THIS was another game of two halves where the team playing uphill won the half, resulting in a frustrating draw for both.

The incline at Cadeby Lane is minimal if at all but it appears to have a slope which is believed to be an advantage.

So at half time with Market Bosworth 16 – 5 in the lead it was expected that with the slope advantage they would win the game easily, but not so.

League leaders Coalville, coached by ex-Bosworth and Leicester player Ben Toft, came back after a trip to the changing rooms at half time and proceeded to up their play and make a draw out of a game that Bosworth should have won easily.

In fact Coalville had opened the scoring when their full back cut the Bosworth defence to shreds and ran in an excellent try which they failed to convert; this was their only score in the first half.

Joe Randon was then able to secure a lead for Bosworth by successfully kicking three penalties followed by his brother Tom going over for a try just wide of the posts which Joe converted.

The second half appeared to start badly for Coalville when their second row was yellow carded, but a lucky bounce on Bosworth’s line gave George Blackburn an easy try which was converted by Billy Savory who shortly afterwards kicked a penalty to bring the score to within one point.

Joe Randon, now playing in the threequarter line having been replaced at scrum half by Johnny Stevens, ran in a splendid try which he unfortunately failed to convert.

Coalville increased their points tally when Billy Savory kicked a penalty and in the last seconds of the game he kicked another penalty to level the score.

The result put Market Bosworth in eighth place with 14 points while Coalville drop to third after Melbourne and Southwell won their fixtures by a 50-point and 30-point margin respectively.

This Saturday sees Market Bosworth travel for the first time to Kesteven, near Grantham in Lincolnshire, for a 2.15pm kick off. Kesteven have lost both of their last two games and sit two places behind Market Bosworth with 10 points.
