Young rugby side continue great run

-

HINCKLEY RFC’s Under-16 side continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 24-7 victory at Leicester Forest.

The away side capitalised on their momentum following the recent county cup victory over their local rivals.

Leicester piled early pressure on Hinckley but could not find a way through the solid back line.

Hinckley broke free and nearly scored a try from a well-worked counter-attack, but an excellent last-gasp tackle denied Clamp the early score.

From the resulting scrum, however, captain Davey picked up and went over unchallenged to score, which Reynolds converted.

Hinckley were now looking far more dangerous than their hosts and were denied another try by a lastminute tackle.

Forest began to use the slope to gain territory with good possession continuing to be met with strong defence from Hinckley.

Hinckley extended their lead before half-time, with Davey scoring an identical try to his first following sloppy defending from Leicester.

In the second-half, Leicester pegged Hinckley back into their own area through good defensive work.

The shackles were eventually broken when Davey broke clear from the halfway line to complete his hat-trick.

Leicester continued to fight their way back into the game but never really looked like troubling the scoreboard thanks to big tackles from Jones, Wass and fly-half Nixon, along with good disruptive play from Lockett and Coltman.

Hinckley added to their tally when Wass broke clear from the halfway and scored under the posts, which Ellershaw converted to seal victory.

A defensive lapse allowed Leicester to score a consolation converted try in the dying moments.

Final score 24-7 to Hinckley.
