Emmaus welcomes civic dignitaries
FORMERLY homeless workers welcomed civic dignitaries to their charity stores.
The Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth Councillor Richard Allen and the High Sheriff of Leicestershire Professor Surinder Sharma paid a visit to the Stockwell Head Emporium and La Boutique on Castle Street, which are run by companions of Hinckley-based Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland.
Based at Elm Lea on Ashby Road in the town, the charity provides accommodation and work for 16 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
Civic figureheads met staff, trustees of the charity and people who have benefited from the support of Emmaus.
Afterwards, the mayor said: “It was a pleasure to see the work of Emmaus and the commitment and enthusiasm shown by the organisers and volunteers.
“I hope the charity continues to gain in strength and would urge everyone to support Emmaus and other voluntary projects throughout the Borough where they can.”
Prof Sharma added: “It was wonderful to see the excellent work being undertaken by the charity - making a real difference to the lives of so many people.”
Emmaus Leicestershire and Rutland chief executive officer Mir Juma said: “We were really encouraged by the interest and enthusiasm of both the Mayor and High Sheriff and we are pleased that they have offered continued support in future.”
