Top shop has the town sewn up as it scoops award

-

A POPULAR shop has stitched up its year by ending 2016 as being crowned as Hinckley’s most beloved store.

The Sewing Cafe, based at the top of Castle Street, has been named as the customer favourite in our Top of the Shops competition.

The shop, which sells a range of pretty, unique fabrics and runs a range of workshops for sewing beginners and experts, came out on top in the public vote.

Run by friends Becky Owen and Fay Hooper, the shop has been open for just over five years, and was launched as a “social and inspirational place” for the pair to indulge in their passion for sewing.

Becky and Fay said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us, it makes us feel very special. All the support is fabulous.

“We were really pleased and excited to win, especially since we were up against such strong competition, representing some of Hinckley’s best independents.

“Actually, we were more excited about the spread of shops who made the final - Hinckley has some amazing independents, and we were proud to be picked as one of them.

“Hopefully it will encourage people to look that bit further out of town, to explore Hinckley some more, as there are some fantastic shops around here.”

The pair have recently launched a new website, where customers can now browse and order their beautiful range of fabrics and sewing materials online. There is also a click and collect option.

The shop will be running a host of new workshops in the New Year, with classes including quilting, pin cushion making and sewing for beginners.

However, the friends admit that, whatever they do next, the special thing about The Sewing Cafe is its sense of community.

They added: “One of the things we didn’t necessarily intend to do but have created is a community. Our customers come in and talk to us about what they’re making, and we always say to bring it in when it’s finished.

“So, then they come in with their work and their grandchild that’s just born who they made it for. It really is a community thing here.

“We are passionate about sewing, so we will happily stand and chat!”
