Poem conveys a universal message for Christmas

-

PLEASE consider this poem Spirit of Christmas for the letters page.

Although I live in Nuneaton, I am Hinckley born and bred and write poetry, much of it’s about my childhood and places in Hinckley in a nostalgic way.

I had a poem recently read out on Leicester Radio re: “Your favourite Leicestershire landmark” and my winning entry for National Poetry Competition – subject ‘messages’ - will be published in December’s Local Rock.

I wrote ‘Spirit of Christmas’ to be performed along with other pieces, in St Mary’s Church for a Christmas concert. I would love to see it printed in The Hinckley Times as I feel it conveys a universal message for Christmas.

Spirit of Christmas Keep the Spirit of Christmas alive in your heart Not just for one day in the year, When family gather together Wishing each other Good Cheer.

The Spirit of Christmas belongs to the world, To each and everyone. It doesn’t matter what you believe, You can have any religion, or none.

It’s a set of standards and morals, Ideals and values, to share. A giving of self without seeking reward, Showing compassion and care.

Kindness and thought cost you nothing Can make a difference, even in a small way. So, live the Spirit of Christmas, Not once in the year, but each day.
