Tree festival is a big success

-

A FIVE-DAY Christmas tree festival raised £4,600 for St Mary’s Church which hosted the community decorating event.

Schools, community groups and businesses decked festive trees throughout the building which was packed with visitors who voted for their favourite.

More than 1,000 votes were cast and the winning trees were as follows: winner of the children’s section was St Mary’s Kindergarten Stick Man-inspired tree, with Richmond Primary School in second place and the 6th Hinckley St John’s Brownies in third.

Winner of the adult section was the Concordia Pantomime Company, with Woodlands Garden Centre in second place and Hinckley District Past and Present in third.

Organisers have thanked everyone who provided trees, advertised, supported and sponsored the event, in particular, DPD, Brookfield Signs, Tummy2Mummy, The Drama Academy, Handelsbanken, New Farm Christmas Trees, North Wilshire Carpets, Oasis Technology, Throgmorton Wealth Management, The Makery of Burbage, Allplebees Catering and Simply Gym.

Stanley Opera staged a concert on the closing night.

The Vicar of Hinckley, the Reverend John Whittaker said: “The whole weekend was so well supported and appreciated and to make such a surplus out of a fun, accessible, community event is truly amazing.”

Plans are already beginning for what organisers say will be an even “bigger and better” festival next year.
