Churches unite for village nativity walk
CHURCHES in Burbage came together to spread the meaning of Christmas with a Nativity walk around the village.
Over 100 people took part following a shining star from scene to scene starting at the Congregational Church.
The Horsepool, Pughes Paddock, Salem Road and Windsor Street before the congregation returned to the starting point for the stable scene.
Barbara Reardon, from Burbage Methodist Church, said: “For us at Burbage Methodist Church ‘finding a place’ is something very much in our minds at the moment, as our church is temporarily homeless.
“We had no Church building to welcome families in to this Christmas but the Congrega- tional Church kindly offered their church for Follow the Star, and we have found ‘a place to take us in’ each Sunday at Grove Rd Infant School until we can move back to our new building in July 2017.
“By doing Follow the Star we felt in amongst the community and have strengthened links with the Burbage Churches,”
As well as Burbage Methodist Church, Burbage Congregational Church, Higham Way Baptist Church and St Catherine’s Church, locals helped pitch in to organise the nativity walk.
Sheila the donkey was provided by a local farmer while the village was also decked out in yarn by a group of volunteer knitters.
Donations on the day raised £120 for Save the Children.
