Party will bring cheer to older people

-

A DONATION from the town’s building society is ensuring smiles on faces for lonely older people in Earl Shilton.

The gift is helping to pay for a party at the Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland day centre on Kings Walk.

Around 70 elderly people who may have nowhere to go for Christmas celebrations are being invited.

Among them will be residents with frailty and restricted mobility, learning disabilities and other conditions including dementia.

A freshly-cooked Christmas dinner will be served, entertainment will be provided and each attendee will receive a wrapped festive gift.

Gerry Davies, from Age UK, said: “We are very thankful to Earl Shilton Building Society for their support and are looking forward to throwing a fantastic Christmas party for our guests.

“In addition to providing a Christmas event for older people, many of whom will spend Christmas alone, we hope to introduce more local older people to the centre and what it can offer them.”

Paul Tilley, chief executive at Earl Shilton Building Society, said: “We’re thrilled to be supporting such a worthwhile cause. Christmas is a time of year where social isolation hits even harder than usual, so this party is an important event in the calendar of those attending. It will be a memorable part of their Christmas experience this year and we’re delighted to be playing our part in making it as special as possible for them.”
