Festive spirit sees firms support charity

THE BOSSY KING was the focus of Townlands CE Primary Academy’s nativity play staged by its foundation class pupils.

Nearly 60 youngsters aged four and five FIRMS in Hinckley have got into the Christmas spirit by doing their part for charity.

Snazzy festive jumpers were on display at National Grid in Hinckley last week as part of a fundraisin­g drive for vulnerable children.

Warm-hearted staff put fashion on the back burner to mark national Christmas Jumper Day on Friday.

Employees donated £1 each to from the Earl Shilton school perfomed the musical drama about a King who changes his ways when he meets baby Jesus. show off their seasonal knitwear in aid of Save the Children.

Tanya Hutchinson, a National Grid organiser, said: “Everyone loves Christmas jumper day. It’s always fun, and it’s amazing what some people find to wear.

“After a long and successful associatio­n with Macmillan this year we’re helping Save the Children.

“Not every child experience­s the joy of a trouble free life, and it’s important – particular­ly at this time of giving – that those more fortunate can help others

Youngsters dressed as shepherds and sheep, wise men and stars to tell the tale in two performanc­es to parents and governors. who are struggling.”

For the last two years the gas network company worked closely with Macmillan Cancer Support, raising more than £600,000 for the charity.

This year it chose Save the Children as its fundraisin­g partner.

Meanwhile, Hinckley and Rugby Building Society joined in the festive fun by throwing a Christmas bash for Hinckley Mencap’s Thursday Club.

A 13-strong team of volunteers from six of the Society’s department­s and branches threw the party for 40 members of the Thursday Club at the charity’s centre on Hill Street.

The party was one of the festive challenges organised with Leicesters­hire Cares, a group which brings businesses and communitie­s together through employee volunteeri­ng.

Carla Loughrey, challenge team leader for the Society, said: “The party was great fun and thoroughly enjoyed by our volunteers and by the Thursday Club members.

“Our thanks go to Mencap for being so welcoming and also to the Sainsbury’s store in Hinckley which donated platters of sandwiches as part of the buffet we laid on.”

Kelly Emery, society secretary ay Hinckley and District Mencap, said: “Our members and volunteers really enjoyed themselves and have been talking about it ever since.

“They had so much fun with the organisers from Hinckley and Rugby Building Society and it was everything you would expect from a Christmas Party. We cannot thank them enough as it meant so much to the members.”
