Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?

-

HAVE you got your fingers crossed for a White Christmas this year?

The idea of a snowy walk, or sledging down a nearby hill sounds pretty fantastic to us.

But, according to the latest forecasts from the Met Office, it looks like we’re more likely to be caught in a gust of wind than a snow shower this Christmas.

Christmas Eve in Leicester is set to be cloudy, with a top temperature of 7c, and wind getting up to 19mph around midday.

Christmas Day is looking mild, with a top temperature of 11c in the early afternoon.

The wind is expected to get up to 24mph around midday - so hold on to your hat if you’re heading out for a stroll. You may also need your brolly as light rain is looking likely.

The definition that the Met Office uses to define a white Christmas is for one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of December 25 somewhere in the UK.

The last official white Christmas was in 2010, when snow was widespread across Northern Ire- land, Scotland, parts of Wales, the Midlands, north-east and far south-west England.

According to the Met Office, we are more likely to see snow between January and March than in December, with snow or sleet falling an average 3.9 days in December, compared to 5.3 days in January, 5.6 days in February and 4.2 days in March.
