Bossie gift wrap points and tumble into relegation zone

-

CHRISTMAS came early at Cadeby Lane, but the gifts all went Melbourne’s way, writes Harry Whitehead.

A game which on paper looked to be another onesided high scoring game developed into an entertaining Christmas spectacular.

The first 20 minutes produced a lot of exhibition rugby with both sides playing excellent rugby.

Unfortunately a Bosworth player obstructed a Melbourne quick penalty and got a yellow card for his misdemeanour.

The penalty was retaken and with the advantage of numbers Melbourne ran in an easy try.

Bosworth regrouped and attacked the Melbourne line keeping them in their half of the field for a lengthy period and getting to within a metre or two of the line only for Melbourne to get a turnover and run the length of the pitch to score at the other end.

This was followed by another gift of a try when Melbourne won a line-out halfway and ran in another well worked try.

The Bosworth defence held out for the rest of the half leaving Melbourne with a 17 point lead at half-time.

Early into the second half Bosworth got their first points on the board when Rich Har- ris kicked a penalty but straight from the restart Melbourne ran in their fourth try unopposed by the Bosworth defence.

With the supporters now cheering them on Bosworth got their act together and produced some excellent well-worked moves involving forwards and backs resulting in Josh Devlin getting a touch down, converted by Harris.

The game then swung Melbourne’s way again when their scrum-half was able to dive over from a five metre scrum. This was followed by a complete reversal of fortunes when Bosworth’s Will Oliver ran in their second try which Harris converted.

In the last minute of the game the Christmas fairy waved her wand again and presented Melbourne with yet another gift of a try.

The result dropped Bosworth into the relegation zone and kept Melbourne at the top.
