Brilliant Burbage end the year on a high as they see off Enville

-

IT HAS been a fantastic first half of the season for NKF Burbage and they will spend Christmas and New Year top of the league with 10 points between themselves and second place.

They are also in the semi-finals of the Challenge Vase and quarter-finals of the County Cup where they will have a local derby with Lutterworth Athletic on January 7 at Lutterworth.

Saturday saw them entertain Enville at Kirkby Road, they had comfortably dispatched Enville the week before in the cup and started in the same manner, having lots of the ball but without really causing Enville too many problems.

The game never really got going but it was Burbage who at times played some lovely one touch football albeit without an end result.

It was the 10th minute when Burbage took the lead through captain Astill, who was the quickest to react when the keeper saved from a Heath free-kick, heading home.

Burbage never really kicked on from this goal and it was Enville who should have got themselves level before the break when they hit the foot of the post with Hill beaten.

Early into the second half the Enville captain headed wide from 10 yards when he was allowed a free header from a corner.

Zach Green made sure of the points midway through the second half when he scored his second in two weeks in the number 9 shirt.

It’s always hard playing teams back to back so Burbage were happy to get another win under their belts.

Next up is a 3pm kick off at Kirkby Road Sports Ground, Barwell, against AFC Solihull.

The club would like to wish all of their supporters a very Merry Christmas and would like to invite everyone to the Hinckley Knight this Friday for the club’s Christmas Race Night starting at 7pm.
