Success for table tennis teams
GEORGE Ward teams have pinged their way to several victories in the Leicester Junior League.
George Ward B, who were promoted to Division two, came up against very strong opposition in the shape of Siven Arora of Knighton Park Three-Tigers.
Arora led his team to a comfortable victory over the Barwell side, defeating them by three sets to one.
But the young G Ward team fought back, securing a double victory against South Wigston (4-0) and Harborough A (3-1) to finish second in the division with eight points - leaving them with an outside chance of promotion.
Frankie Hallam won all of her matches, while Edward Brown and Alana Richardson won two out of four.
In Division Four, the undefeated C team topped the group and will be promoted in the next series of matches in January.
They won every game, including against their A team, but drew with Knighton Park 7-Zebras.
The A team beat KP Zebras four sets to nil, but lost to their C team 3-1, to finish second on eight points.
Both Ben Bennett (A) and Callum Dale (C) were unbeaten, while Oliver Wynne (A) won three of his four sets and both Jack Dennis (C) and Jack Bennett (C) took 50% of their games.
The G Ward D team, playing in Division Nine, did well and won two of their three matches.
They defeated both KP14 (Meerkats) by three sets to one and Harbor- ough C 4-0.
They finished second in the league in what was only their second appearance in the competition.
Young Ryan Lawton was outstanding, winning his four sets while Lucy Dennis won two of her games and Freya Wynne collected one win.
Meanwhile, a number of Hinckley-based youngsters took part in the Leicestershire Schools Individual Championships.
Frankie Hallam won the Under-13 Girls’ category, defeating teammate Alana Richardson in the final.
In the boy’s event, Edward Brown took the title.
Both Frankie and Edward will compete at the national finals in April next year.
