Speed bumps are next to useless and polluting

-

WELL done to Denis Bown (Hinckley Times, December 14) for raising the pertinent question of what is happening to the developers contribution to the community.

But the really significant point highlighted is the waste of money by the county council.

In a recent Government report speed bumps were found to be next to useless, and contributed to carbon emission, so why are the council officials not up to date?

The county have also embarked on a multi pound project to install LED lighting to street lamps? A desirable thing, but not essential, and for a huge expenditure they make a little saving, thus being penny wise, but pound foolish!

But right across the public sector we are seeing bureaucracy not fit for purpose. The Government has recently spent £285 million on a useless air- port on the island of St Helena, which cannot be used because of cross winds, a fact that was known on the island?

They are spending further millions on fish breeding programmes in the pacific, and teaching children in the far east and Latin America how to appreciate TV and Shakespeare; what a waste of money when the NHS is crying out for funds?

The cause of the problem is politicians who have allowed public sector workers to develop a “no blame culture”, which means no one is accountable or responsible!

Instead of making good workers redundant, why not start sacking those who are responsible for overseeing all this waste, because if that happened, perhaps they would start to listen more instead of following their own agenda!
