THE POWER of social media has prompted scores of people to embark on a quest to save an abandoned puppy.

According to reports the puppy was dumped out of a grey car by a woman at Clarendon Park in Hinckley on Monday afternoon.

Passers-by who spotted the callous act banged on the car window to try and question the woman but she sped off.

The white dog, a small breed, put at perhaps just a couple of months old, had already ran off.

People then took Spotted Hinckley to and rally assistance finding the animal.

One woman, Lisa Lace, even sent a message of concern from Mississippi in the United States.

A number of locals went out to the park with torches and treats to try and tempt the pup out from hiding.

It was spotted in the wooded area of the park but was too timid to allow to try in people to approach, and despite searchers being out until the early hours of the morning and back again on Tuesday the animal simply could not be found.

Frankie Reid summed up many people’s thoughts when she posted on Spotted Hinckley: “Everyone that went down tonight thank you for trying so hard, I know most of you didn’t want any thanks just wanted that poor little baby safe. I’m also sorry you never was able to locate her but you all tried your best. You don’t know what abuse she has received before being dumped this evening and was obviously very scared. So many lovely people have tried so hard fighting terrible conditions and circumstances. I want you all to be proud that you tried.”

Jodie Cheshire, one of those who tried searching for the dog, commented that she would contact both the borough dog warden and the RSPCA.

Early Tuesday, Jen Moore, another searcher, posted her thanks to others who had helped in the hunt, saying: “I just want to praise all the people that have helped so far in the search for the little puppy. So many caring people.

“All the people that have either shared, commented and been out searching should be incredibly proud of themselves, shows true compassion. I’m about to go out to look for the little one again, let’s hope with everything crossed that it’s found safe and well.”
