TWO WORTHY causes have benefited from a host of events staged by the former Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, Councillor Janice Richards.

Menphys Nursery in Burbage and the ABF The Soldiers Charity shared the £14,000 plus raised by Janice during her tenure as first citizen of the borough.

Among the highlights of the fundraising campaign were a masked ball, a ‘black and white diamond’ dinner dance and a concert at the Concordia Theatre to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Janice said: “I’m thrilled to have raised such a wonderful amount.

“I don’t think I could have raised any more as everyone who supported me were so very generous and there are so many things going on to try and raise money nowadays.

“People have been so supportive of all the functions I put on and local businesses too with their kind raffle dona- tions.

“I think to have raised more than £14,000 is a fantastic achievement.”

Menphys, a centre for children with special educational needs based at Sketchley Hill Primary School, will put the money towards purchasing an interactive carpet for pupils.

The school sent a thank-you card, handmade by the pupils, to Janice along with an invitation to visit when the carpet has arrived.

ABF The Soldiers Charity will use their donation to help care and support past and present members of the armed forces and their families.

Janice said: “I had am amazing time as mayor and I want to thank everyone who supported me.”

She added: “I’m sure their purses and wallets are a lot lighter - but all for good causes.”
